 Canadian Wildlife Coins Design and Specifications

Each of the six coins in the Canadian Wildlife Coins series has the same specifications. The coins contain one troy ounce of very fine silver, with a fineness level of .9999. This means that each coin contains one ounce of silver that is 99.99% pure. This is a very high purity level, and in line with the quality of silver products that the Royal Canadian Mint if known for producing. The face value of each coin is $5 Canadian Dollars, though the actual value is worth more than that, as the value of one ounce of silver is higher than the face value.

 The obverse (front) side of each coin in the Canadian Wildlife series depicts a portrait of England’s Queen Elizabeth II. This image was designed by the renowned portrait artist, Susanna Blunt. The obverse side also inscribed with the phrases “ELIZABETH II,” “5 DOLLARS,” and the specific year the coin was produced.

 The reverse (back) side of Canadian Wildlife Coins features the specific animal, as well as the inscriptions “CANADA,” “9999,” and “FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR.” These phrases indicate the coin’s purity level and silver content. “Argent pur” translates to “pure silver.” The six animal designs depicted on the reverse sides of the Canadian Wildlife coin series are described below:

 The 2010 Canadian Wolf silver coin depicts the Canadian wolf standing in the snow with a full moon in the background behind it. The wolf appears to tower over evergreen trees, also placed in the background. It was designed by William Woodruff.

 The 2011 Canadian Grizzly silver coin showcases a grizzly bear standing near a lake on all fours. The bear has its mouth open in a triumphant roar with a mountain in the background. William Woodruff also designed this coin.

 The 2011 Canadian Cougar silver coin features the Canadian cougar standing on its hind legs, with its front legs on top of a fallen tree trunk. Its mouth is open, displaying an impressive set of sharp teeth. Once again, this design was created by William Woodruff.

 The 2012 Canadian Moose silver coin depicts the Canadian moose standing proudly in a field of grass and shrubs. The moose’s size is shown by how much taller it is than the field. The detail of the moose’s body and antlers is remarkable. William Woodruff created this image, his fourth in the series.

 The 2012 Canadian Pronghorn Antelope silver coin shows the antelope in motion in a vast field of grass. The animal appears to be trotting or walking confidently. The background highlights Canada’s beauty with several rolling hills and layers of countryside. Emily S. Damstra designed this coin, adding a new name to the design column in the Canadian Wildlife coin series.

 The 2013 Canadian Wood Bison silver coin features the Canadian bison on the move in the forest. A dense set of evergreen trees are set in the background, with the bison galloping through shallow snow in the foreground. Emily S. Damstra designed this coin.
